On November 1st 2016,  WKIC went on a fabulous study tour to Ganghwa Island, famous for its rich historic and

cultural heritages. This island served as an important fortress where Korea resisted foreign invaders several times

throughout Korean history. As South Korea's fourth- largest island, located at the northwest corner of the country,

Ganghwado has a variety of landscapes and structures that reflect the nation's dramatic history.

The trip started with a visit to the History Museum and Yongheunggung, the former residence of Joseon King Cheoljong.

The King's residence was tucked away in a small alley among houses and restaurants. It is a simple structure, showing

no sign of the extravagance of other houses of aristocrats. The small back door is close to the front gate of Korea's

first Anglican church. Established in 1890 it was well worth a visit due to its rare architectural form, built in traditional

Korean style.

About forty members went for a stroll around the area with a professional guide who provided them with interesting

historical information about the area. For the last tour of the day, the participants visited Jeondeungsa Temple, which

served as an enshrining sanctuary to family ancestors.
